Alexey Oleynik Doesn’t Want to Wait to Capitalize on Big UFC 249 Win

Sign up for ESPN+ right here, and you can then stream the UFC live on your smart TV, computer, phone, tablet or streaming device via the ESPN app.

Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight Alexey Oleynik is not one to call out future opponents, even after earning a No. 10 UFC ranking following a pivotal win over former division champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 249. However, that does not mean he will face whomever the promotion offers. The 42-year-old is well aware of his value and will only settle for a Top 15 foe next.

“Really, I never ask for [specific] names. I ask for any fighters. I’m No. 10, and my future opponent [should be] No. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. I think it can be plus-minus 5 [spots from me]. I know everybody in that Top 15 is super strong. Of course, I want a [talented] and famous fighter. But when I ask the UFC, give me a top-ranking fighter, UFC tells me, ‘for that you must maybe wait 7 [to] 10 months.’ Sorry guys, I’m not 30-years-old. I’m not so rich. For my future fight I’m not waiting 10 months. This is not a good idea. I want to fight, and fight and fight.”

Along with talking about what could come next in his 73-fight career, Oleynik dove in about his monumental win over Werdum and if a heavy striking attack was always the plan.
