Ronda Rousey is branching out into action films. | Photo: Sherdog.com
Ronda Rousey has suddenly become a hot commodity in Hollywood.
According to a report in Variety, the Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight titleholder is currently in negotiations to join the cast of the seventh installment of the popular “Fast & Furious” series. The film, which will be directed by James Wan, is expected to begin shooting in the fall and will include familiar faces such as Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. “Fast & Furious 6” grossed more than $740 million worldwide and featured former Strikeforce talent Gina Carano.
“Fast & Furious 7” is the second film to seek Rousey’s services in the past few weeks; last month, Sylvester Stallone announced the Olympic judoka would have a role in “The Expendables 3.” The 26-year-old Rousey in February signed a representation deal with global talent agency William Morris Endeavor.
According to Variety, Rousey will be finished shooting both films in time to begin training camp for her rematch with Miesha Tate at UFC 168 in December. “Rowdy” will coach opposite Tate on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” which premieres on Sept. 4 on Fox Sports 1. Rousey has finished all seven of her professional opponents via armbar, most recently submitting Liz Carmouche at UFC 157 in February.

Ronda Rousey has Hollywood in her sights. | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight titleholder Ronda Rousey has apparently been cast in the upcoming third installment of “The Expendables” film franchise. Series creator Sylvester Stallone tweeted the news on July 23, also revealing that former boxing champion Victor Ortiz has also been cast in the film.
Rousey, 26, signed a representation deal in February with global talent agency William Morris Endeavor. The news came just after it was reported Rousey had been offered a role in the new “Hunger Games” sequel.
In the cage, Rousey has never tasted defeat, submitting her first seven opponents with first-round armbars. The Olympic judo bronze medalist captured the Strikeforce bantamweight title from Miesha Tate in 2012 and was crowned the UFC champion upon her arrival to the Zuffa-owned promotion. Following her successful title defense against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157, Rousey was cast as a coach in “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 18, which is currently in production.
Known for his iconic roles as John Rambo and Rocky Balboa, Stallone created “The Expendables” franchise in 2010 and followed up with a sequel in 2012. The films have featured a massive cast of famous action stars, including Stallone, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, as well as UFC hall of famer Randy Couture. “The Expendables 3” is expected to hit theaters next summer.

Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate will renew acquaintances on “The Ultimate Fighter.” | Photo: Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
An injury to Cat Zingano has opened the door for chapter two of the Ronda Rousey-Miesha Tate rivalry, as they will coach opposite one another on Season 18 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series.
Rousey and the rest of the cast were informed of the switch on May 28, when Tate appeared at the start of taping in Zingano’s stead. “The Ultimate Fighter 18” premieres on Sept. 4 on Fox Sports 1. Rousey will defend her Ultimate Fighting Championship women’s bantamweight title against Tate once the show wraps.
Zingano earned her spot as a coach on Season 18 when she stopped Tate at “The Ultimate Fighter 17” Finale on April 13, weathering early offense from the former Strikeforce champion before securing a third-round technical knockout. Unbeaten in eight professional appearances, the 30-year-old has delivered seven of her victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.
Tate, 26, was booked to meet former title contender Liz Carmouche at UFC on Fox 8 before accepting the coaching gig on “The Ultimate Fighter.” Prior to her loss to Zingano, Tate had rattled off seven wins in her past eight bouts, a submission defeat to Rousey in March 2012 the lone hiccup.
