“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 winner Nate Diaz will
meet Marcus Davis
in a welterweight matchup at UFC 118 “Edgar vs. Penn 2” on Aug. 28
at the TD Garden in Boston. Eleven bouts are now official for the
event.
Diaz -- who has posted seven wins in 10 appearances -- last fought in March, when he stopped International Fight League veteran Rory Markham on first-round punches in his welterweight debut at UFC 111. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt under Cesar Gracie, the 25-year-old Stockton, Calif., native has been finished only once in 17 professional bouts.
A Mark DellaGrotte protégé, Davis put a stop to a two-fight losing
streak with his second-round technical knockout against Jonathan
Goulet last month at UFC 113. The 36-year-old Houlton, Maine,
native holds a 9-4 mark inside the Octagon. Fourteen of his 17
career victories have come by knockout, TKO or submission.
The welterweight matchups at UFC 118 do not end there, as Phil Baron will lock horns with Adrenaline MMA veteran John Salter on the undercard.
A collegiate national champion wrestler at the NAIA level, Salter was the beneficiary of Jason MacDonald’s gruesome leg injury at UFC 113. It was his first win inside the Octagon. The 25-year-old, out of Gardendale, Ala., owns other notable victories against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 quarterfinalist James Hammortree and two-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Roberto Traven.
A ballyhooed rematch between lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and the man he dethroned, B.J. Penn, will headline UFC 118, along with a heavyweight matchup between UFC hall of famer Randy Couture and professional boxer turned mixed martial artist James Toney.

Baroni, 34, has not won inside the Octagon since he knocked out
former UFC middleweight champion Dave Menne in
18 seconds back in September 2002. Wins against Japanese standouts
Ikuhisa
Minowa, Ryo Chonan and
Yuki
Kondo highlight his resume. Baroni dropped a unanimous decision
to “The Ultimate Fighter” 7 winner Amir
Sadollah at UFC 106 in November, as he returned to the UFC for
the first time in nearly five years.
