Felty put Kuhner to sleep.
John Felty vs. John Kuhner
Round 1
Welterweights start the action off at Nationwide Arena with referee Mark Matheny overseeing the action. The fighters touch gloves and Felty shoots and secures a takedown. Kuhner is game and stands to separate. Kuhner shoots again and secures a takedown. He gets the back of Kuhner but cant secure it and the two men stand again. Kuhner lands a left to the face of Felty, but then eats a left-right combination. Off of the punches Felty secures a takedown and settles in to his opponents guard. With 90 seconds remaining, Kuhner is on his back with a butterfly hook in. Felty is not doing much from top position, but manages to push his opponent's head in to the cage. The round ends. 10-9 Felty.

Round 2
The second frame starts with a Felty low kick. Off of the strike, he shoots in and Kuhner sprawls forcing a scramble. The fighters settle with Felty on his back. The Columbus native tries to stand but Kuhner takes his back and looks for the rear-naked choke. Felty goes to his back with Kuhner maintaining the mount position. After eating some punches, Felty gives his back again and eats more shots. Kuhner goes for the choke again but nothing is there. Felty goes to his back again and Kuhner gets a high mount, which he turns into a triangle. Kuhner is on his back now with Felty in the hold. There is less than a minute remaining in the round, but Felty can't stay conscious. Matheny stops the bout at 4:31 via technical submission.

Whitesel forced a tap from Cofer.
Marc Cofer vs. Mitch Whitesel
Round 1
Dan Miragliotta is at the helm of this middleweight tilt. Cofer bullies his way past a low kick and pushes Whitesel up against the cage. Whitesel pushes clear and gets back to the center of the cage. Cofer pushes back in but Whitesel reverses him and pushes him up against the cage. Cofer tries a throw but misses and Whitesel ends up on top. He locks onto a guillotine choke and creeps up to gain leverage as Cofer tries to fend the submission off while sitting against the cage. He can’t hold out for long and finally capitulates at 3:55 of the first round.

Ian Rammel vs. Brian Rogers
Round 1
D. Mandel

Rogers (right) has won six straight.
Rogers clocks Rammel with a hard left hook to kick off the fight. Rammel takes another big shot and falls to guard briefly. Referee Greg Franklin, the brother of former UFC champion Rich Franklin, urges him back to his feet after Rogers backs away. Rogers has staked out the center of the cage and is walking Rammel down. He counters a low kick and floors Rammel with a straight right hand. Rogers is conservative and doesn’t follow him to the mat. Rammel gets back up and while he is game, he just doesn’t have the speed or power to hang with Rogers. Rammel eats another big shot, a right hand followed by a flurry of shots that he avoids by bobbing and weaving. He is not as fortunate in the next exchange as Rogers finds his mark with a one-two that puts Rammel back down and he pounds away until Franklin intervenes at 4:23
of the first period, giving Rogers the TKO victory.

D. Mandel

Freeman rallied to take out Riley.
Jason Riley vs. Jay Freeman
Round 1
Freeman and Riley feel each other out for a bit as referee Kyle Wheeler looks on. Freeman lands a low kick but is countered with a huge right hand by Riley that fells the big man. Riley pounces and a stoppage looks imminent. Wheeler allows Freeman to try to fight his way back into the bout and he locks up his guard as Riley continues to pummel him. Freeman wriggles free as soon as the onslaught subsides and gets back to his feet. Riley looks for another big shot but Freeman catches him on his way in with a right of his own. Riley crumples to the mat and Freeman hammers him with punches until Riley submits at 1:52, giving Freeman an unthinkable come-from-behind win.

D. Mandel

Gurgel submitted Vaughan.
Jorge Gurgel vs. Billy Vaughan
Round 1
Gurgel and Vaughan meet in the middle of the cage and exchange briefly before Vaughan shoots in for a takedown. Gurgel cinches up a guillotine choke and cranks it while standing. Vaughan is stubborn and adjusts his position as he continues to work for the takedown. Gurgel jumps to guard and it is apparent the hold is deep. Vaughan can’t hold out any longer and taps out at just 44 seconds of the first round.

The win is the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt's first submission since February 2005.

Roger Bowling vs. Josh Thornburg
Round 1
Bowling rushes out and clinches with Thornburg, but as he tries to sling him to the mat he is reversed. As the fighters scramble, Thornburg grabs onto a guillotine and Bowling lifts him into the air and plants him on his back. Bowling moves to side control along the cage and batters Thornburg with heavy punches. Thornburg is one tough hombre; he eats a ton of leather as he works his way back to his feet. He may be too tough for his own good though. Bowling tees off on his weary and wobbly foe. He lands a big right hand and then another before sinking him to the ground again. He passes to mount and then takes his back and nearly sinks a rear-naked choke before Thornburg turns back into him. Bowling sets back up in side control and punishes Thornburg right up to the horn. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-8 for Roger Bowling.

D. Mandel

Bowling outpointed Thornburg.
Round 2
Bowling takes the fight right back to the floor to kick of the second. He quickly moves back to side and begins a methodical thumping of his overmatched opponent. Thornburg is showing great grit and toughness but he just isn’t competitive to this point. The pace has slowed considerably and referee Dan Miragliotta finally steps in to bring the fighters back to their feet, and the crowd roars their excitement. Bowling is looking a little more tired now but it doesn’t stop him from landing a couple big shots. Out of nowhere Thornburg clinches up and trips him to the ground. Bowling doesn’t want to be there and immediately sweeps back into the top position just before the round closes. Sherdog.com scores round two 10-9 for Bowling.

Round 3
A nice lead left from Bowling sends Thornburg retreating after he misses on a head kick. Thornburg tries to bring the fight to the ground again but in the ensuing scramble he loses position after Bowling sweeps him while defending what looks like an arm-triangle attempt. Bowling inches him up against the cage then passes from guard to half. Bowling’s pace has slowed quite a bit but he is working enough from the top to stave off a standup. Thornburg is trying to work his guard but is getting smothered. The Ohio crowd finally cheers when Miragliotta stands the fight back up. Bowling catches a charging Thornburg with a lead right hand that snaps his head to the side and then picks him up and slams him hard to the ground. Thornburg grabs a guillotine in the air but does not have enough time to finish with only 15 seconds left. Bowling posts up to give himself room to breath and rides out the round. Sherdog scores the final frame 10-9 for Bowling.

Official scores: 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27, all in favor of the winner by unanimous decision, Roger Bowling.

Billy Evangelista vs. Jorge Masvidal
Round 1
Ty Wheeler is the referee for the evening’s first televised bout. Evangelista throws first, but it’s Masvidal who quickly establishes his crisp left jab. Evangelista goes with outside leg kicks. One is caught by Masvidal, who drills Evangelista with right hands. Evangelista falls to his back and eats a few more punches. They stand and clinch, trading knees along the fence. Evangelista takes the dominant position and lands more sharp knees before they break off. Masvidal digs a punch to the body and one to the head, driving a knee into Evangelista as he’s taken down. From his back, Masvidal grabs for a guillotine and seems to have something before Evangelista scoots him into the fence. They scramble up with 90 seconds to go and Evangelista throws a level elbow, then goes back to knees in the clinch. After a few, Masvidal answers with a nice knee of his own and moves away. He catches a kick from Evangelista and nearly trips him down. Evangelista shoots now and Masvidal sprawls all over it. Another jab from Masvidal has Evangelista wincing. Evangelista has another takedown attempt stuffed at the horn.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Masvidal
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Masvidal
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Masvidal

Round 2
D. Mandel

Masvidal (left) def. Evangelista.
Evangelista comes out more aggressively in the second, but still finds himself eating jabs from Masvidal, whose knees in the clinch are vicious. Masvidal hooks a leg and trips Evangelista to the ground. Evangelista soon scrambles up, takes another hard jab from Masvidal and shoots. It’s stuffed, and the pair continue trading blows. Masvidal is moving backward with his hands low, counterpunching and picking Evangelista apart. Evangelista shoots and gets stuffed again, this time absorbing a hard knee to the solar plexus. Masvidal lands a stinging right straight, slips another shot from Evangelista and scores a takedown of his own at the base of the fence. Evangelista stands, only to be slammed down even harder.

Masvidal grabs at a headlock from north-south position and looks to roll into an anaconda choke, but it’s not there. Evangelista gets up and gets drilled by another knee to the gut. Masvidal moves backward once more, dodging Evangelista’s punches with great head movement and grinning as he does so.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Masvidal
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Masvidal
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Masvidal

Round 3
The pace slows in the first minute of the final round, though the punches that do come are from Evangelista. A low kick grazes Masvidal, but he shakes it off without a stoppage. Evangelista goes for a single-leg and Masvidal hops his back into the fence. He shucks Evangelista and clips him with a standing elbow. Masvidal times a leg kick perfectly and comes over the top, drilling Evangelista with a right hand. An equally hard right uppercut finds its mark and the men clinch, Masvidal shoving Evangelista into the cage with two minutes to go. They break and Evangelista goes back to headhunting, with Masvidal seeming content to coast to the decision. Boos come from the otherwise quiet crowd. Evangelista keeps coming forward, landing only glancing blows and taking hard counterpunches when Masvidal does throw. Evangelista turns it on in the last 30 seconds, landing half a dozen punches and knees, but it is much too little, too late.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Masvidal (30-27 Masvidal)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Masvidal (30-27 Masvidal)
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Masvidal (30-27 Masvidal)

Official scores: All three judges have it 30-27 for the winner by unanimous decision, Jorge Masvidal.

Tim Kennedy vs. Melvin Manhoef
Round 1
D. Mandel

Kennedy (top) took out Manhoef.
Mark Matheny is in the third man in the cage for this middleweight bout. Manhoef flicks a kick an inch away from Kennedy’s face and Kennedy soon shoots in. Manhoef sprawls nicely and then slips Kennedy’s grasp entirely. It’s tense circling with Manhoef twitching every time Kennedy thinks about coming in. The Dutchman sprawls on another shot, then catches a kick from Kennedy and drills him with a straight right. Kennedy stumbles back. A single outside thigh kick from Manhoef buckles the left leg of Kennedy. He shoots from a long way out and Manhoef sprawls well once more. This time, though, Kennedy is persistent and gets his man to the floor. Quickly to side control goes Kennedy, and then into full mount.

Manhoef bucks and rolls at the base of the fence, giving up his back. Kennedy sinks his hooks in and it’s looking bad for Manhoef with two minutes to go. Manhoef is flattened out on his stomach as Kennedy drops bombs, a few of which stray to the back of Manhoef’s head. Kennedy decides to finish it and slips in a rear-naked choke. Manhoef resists briefly, but is trapped and must submit at the 3:41 mark.

Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight Championship
Marloes Coenen vs. Liz Carmouche

Round 1
Greg Franklin draws officiating duties for the first of two title bouts. The women rush across the cage and come out firing, Coenen throwing outside leg kicks and Carmouche looking to come over the top. Coenen stings her challenger with a crisp straight right. Carmouche shifts along the perimeter, twitching and feinting, eating punches when she comes forward with missing combinations. Coenen flicks out a leg kick and just misses with another up high. Carmouche goes to leg kicks of her own now, but her face is already showing redness from Coenen’s punches. The “Girl-rilla” muscles Coenen into the cage, but the champ reverses and scores with a knee. Carmouche gets the position back and Coenen is now sporting a mouse under her right eye. The women trade foot stomps inside as they spin along the fence with over-unders. Referee Franklin splits them with a minute to go. Coenen kicks high. She eats a nice right from Carmouche, perhaps the challenger’s best punch of the round. Front kick to the gut stumbles Carmouche, who clinches up just before the horn.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Coenen
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Coenen
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Coenen

Round 2
Carmouche is throwing volume punches early and landing more than in the previous round. She rushes Coenen into the cage, but Coenen reverses and drives a knee into the off-balance challenger’s face. They wind up clinching on the fence and Coenen snares a tight guillotine. It looks like a fight-ender, but Carmouche powers out and drives Coenen into the ground. Coenen throws her legs up as Carmouche tries to pound. An armbar nearly catches, but Carmouche shakes it and lands a couple hard punches to the grounded Coenen. Carmouche stacks and passes to north-south position, then begins driving knees into Coenen’s right shoulder. Coenen is pushing off of Carmouche’s hips with her hands, looking for a sweep. Carmouche goes to side control and Coenen grabs at a leg. The champ can’t find space for a leg lock and finds herself fully mounted. Coenen throws her legs up repeatedly, trying to hook Carmouche’s arms and peel her off, but it doesn’t work. Carmouche pounds from mount for the final 30 seconds, but Coenen does well to cover up to the end.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Carmouche
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Carmouche
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Carmouche

Round 3
D. Mandel

Coenen (bottom) kept her title.
Coenen kicks to the body of Carmouche, who wastes little time in clinching up. Knees in close from Carmouche; Coenen answers with a nice level elbow. Not much action from either woman, just an even trading of short knees and foot stomps. Midway through the round, Carmouche trips Coenen down and takes mount again. Coenen’s right side is to the base of the fence, and she pushes off the side of the cage with her feet. Coenen bridges, but can do little to shake Carmouche. Again, the champion tries to hook Carmouche’s arms with her legs. It’s a repeat of the end of the first round, as Carmouche is just pounding away at the covering Coenen. Very high mount for Carmouche with 30 seconds left. Coenen is surviving and isn’t in any real danger, but she’s offering nothing in return. The round ends there, same as the last.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Carmouche
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Carmouche
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Carmouche

Round 4
Coenen resists a takedown from Carmouche and winds up in her challenger’s guard. Carmouche goes to rubber guard and Coenen stands, then finds herself on the defensive as Carmouche drives forward for a double-leg. Carmouche gets the takedown, but Coenen sinks in a textbook triangle choke. Carmouche is forced to submit and Coenen gets the come-from-behind win at 1:29 of the fourth round.

Sherdog.com’s Greg Savage reports that all three judges had the bout scored 29-28 Carmouche heading into the fourth round. All three saw the first round for the champion, and the second and third for the challenger.

Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship
Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante vs. Dan Henderson

Round 1
Referee Dan Miragliotta is in charge of this light heavyweight championship main event. Both men stalk and twitch, sizing one another up with right hands cocked. The only offense in the opening minute is a chopping leg kick from the champion. Cavalcante misses with left hooks and lands a leg kick. A right hand glances “Feijao” and the champ looked worried momentarily. However, he walks straight forward and plugs Henderson with a clubbing right of his own. It sends “Hendo” stumbling to the ground, his legs buckling. Feijao gives chase, but Henderson drives forward and winds up in the Brazilian’s guard. The action slows such that Miragliotta stands them up with two minutes to go. They clinch on the fence with Henderson on the outside. Miragliotta instructs them to work and the men trade knees inside. They’re split up with seconds to go, and that’s where the round ends.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-10
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Cavalcante

Round 2
Henderson comes over the top with a solid right, but misses on the follow-ups. Cavalcante stuffs a shot and gets pushed into the fence, where he thuds punches to the back and midsection of his challenger. Henderson goes to a single-leg and Cavalcante tries to drive his head down. The champ succeeds in staying up and looks for a trip of his own, only to have it stuffed and be tossed to the mat himself. Henderson works from half-guard, trying to pass on Cavalcante’s right. Feijao grabs the trapped leg of Henderson and uses it to sweep into guard. Henderson closes up guard while Cavalcante thumps his body with short punches. Miragliotta wants them up with just over 90 seconds to go. Cavalcante misses with a big left high kick, then an ill-intentioned hooking combo. Henderson lands a pair of Superman punches and trips Feijao to the ground to finish the frame.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Henderson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Henderson
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Henderson

Round 3
Cavalcante lands a low kick and Henderson counters with an overhand right. Another straight right lands for Hendo, who clinches up, but Feijao doesn’t stay there long. Henderson ducks in and decks Cavalcante with a big right hand. The champ falls to his stomach, smacking his face on the canvas. Henderson jumps onto Cavalcante’s back, sinks his hooks in and seals the deal with a few more punches. Miragliotta steps in and waves the contest off 50 seconds into the third round, making 40-year-old Dan Henderson the new Strikeforce light heavyweight champion.
