TPF 23 Weigh-in Results: Griffin, Njokuani Cleared for Welterweight Title Tilt

By Tristen Critchfield May 6, 2015

A ticket to a larger promotion could be on the line when Max Griffin defends his welterweight championship against Chidi Njokuani at Tachi Palace Fights 23 on Thursday night.

Both fighters made weight without issue on Wednesday, as Griffin tipped the scales at 168 pounds, while Njokuani checked in at 170. TPF 23 “Cinco de Mayhem” takes place at Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif., and streams live and free on beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Griffin, 29, enters the matchup on a six-fight winning streak. He last appeared at TPF 21, where he scored a brutal first-round against Ricky Legere Jr. to capture the 170-pound strap. During his current tear, Max “Pain” has also scored notable triumphs over Bellator MMA veterans Fernando Gonzalez and Waachiim Spiritwolf.

Njokuani, meanwhile, is unbeaten in his last four outings, with a no-contest against Chris Heatherly the only blemish on his resume during that time. In his most recent outing, the 26-year-old Las Vegas resident took a five-round verdict over former “Ultimate Fighter 17” competitor Gilbert Smith in the Resurrection Fighting Alliance 22 headliner. “Chidi Bang Bang” did not take home a title for his efforts, however, as he failed to make weight the day before the event.
