Magomed Bibulatov vs. Rogerio Bontorin

Round 1

First up it’s the flyweights with the Russian Bibulatov traveling to Brazil to fight Bontorin. The referee for this bout is Jerin Valel. Both men start tepid. Bibulatov attempts a spinning back fist but misses. Bibulatov lands a body kick and Bontorin goes for the clinch. Bibulatov lands a judo takedown from the clinch and the fight is on the ground. Bontorin goes for an omoplata, Bibulatov gets out and the fight gets back on the feet. Bibulatov misses a spinning wheel kick but lands a 1-2. Bontorin lands a nice right hand and follows it up with another. Bontorian lands a body kick but Bibulatov catches the leg and gets the fight to the ground. In a scramble Bontorin gets the back of Bibulatov. He has back control and is landing punches to Bibulatov to try and soften him up. Now he is working for the rear-naked choke. It looks tight but Bibulatov is fighting it. Now he finally gets out of it. Now Bontorin is on top working in full guard. Bontorin is landing some ground and pound from the top but Bibulatov is able to get up He lands a spinning back kick on Bontorin. Bibulatov lands a body shot and then some more but Bontorin is taking them. Bibulatov goes for one more trip takedown but Bontorin stuffs it. Bontorin goes for a single leg but doesn’t get it and the round is over.

Round 2

Round two starts. Bontorin and Bibulatov battle in the clinch but neither gets a takedown. Bibulatov lands and overhand right then clinches Bontorin against the cage. The ref breaks them apart and warns Bibulatov not to grab the shorts. Fight is back on. Bibulatov lands a spinning back fist. Bontorin lands a left straight a low kick. Bibulatov misses a hook kick. Bibulatov lands a nasty right hook into the body and then a side kick to the body. Bontorin looks tired. Bontorin lands a huge overhand left but Bibulatov eats it. Bibulatov lands a spinning back kick to the body. Bibulatov gets a double leg takedown. He’s on top now and landing punches but Bontorin is working from the bottom. Bontorin scrambles and gets up. Bibulatov lands a hook kick but again Bontorin eats it. Side kick to the body by Bibulatov and the round is over. Big round for the Russian.

Round 3

Tepid start to the third round after a sensational second round. The fight is tied and whoever takes the third wins it. Bibulatov lands a spinning back fist and then another side kick. Bibulatov lands a knee. Bontorin lands a big left hook and a right straight behind it. 1-2 from Bibulatov and then a right hook into the body. Bontorin is marching forward and Bibulatov lands a right high kick. Right hand from Bibulatov and Bontorin returns. Spinning back kick lands by Bibulatov. These guys are now biting down on their mouth pieces and throwing hands at each other. Bibulatov gets inside and gets Bontorin against the fence looking for a double leg but Bontorin defends it well. The ref warns them to work from the clinch and finally they break. Bibulatov looks for another double leg but Bontorin defends and is now working Bibulatov against the cage. Bibulatov escapes. Right hook to the body by Bontorin. Bontorin uses a whizzer and gets the takedown and now has the back of Bibulatov. He is working for the rear-naked choke but doesn’t get it and the round is over. Great fight.

Round 1

It’s the bantamweights now as Nurmagomedov takes on Ramos. The referee is Joao Claudio Soares. They touch gloves and Nurmagomedov lands a right low kick. Left body kick by Nurmagomedov lands. Another right low kick lands. Ramos misses a spinning back kick and Nurmagomedov lands another right low kick. Spinning back kick by Nurmagomedov lands and nearly knocks Ramos down. Ramos just misses a spinning back elbow. Spinning wheel kick attempt by Nurmagomedov misses but he lands another low kick on Ramos. Spinning back fist by Nurmagomedov lands. Ramos misses a low kick. Another spinning back kick lands by Nurmagomedov to the body and he has Ramos hurt badly this time. Nurmagomedov rushes in and starts landing punches along the fence until the referee jumps in and stops the fight. Great finish by the Russian.

Geraldo de Freitas Jr. vs. Felipe Dias Colares

Round 1

A pair of debuting Brazilian bantamweights has De Freitas taking on Colares. The ref is Osiris Maia. They touch gloves. De Freitas lands a high kick and Colares returns with a low kick. Jab from De Freitas and Colares returns with a low kick. Overhand right lands by De Freitas. Low kick by De Freitas lands. Jab from De Freitas and he follows it up with a kick to the body. Now a big left straight from Colares lands. De Freitas lands some knees in the clinch and now breaks and lands a kick to the body. Colares dives in for a double leg and completes it with a big slam. Now Colares has the back of De Freitas but he shakes him off. De Freitas is on top now landing ground and pound but Colares gets up, Colares uses the whizzer to reverse and now he’s on top. De Freitas is working a submission from his back but Colares is on top now and moves into half guard. De Freitas reverses and is now landing knees to Colares against the cage. De Freitas now gets a double leg takedown and is working on top in half guard. Colares gets back into full guard but De Freitas gets back into half guard. De Freitas moves into side control. He’s looking for a kimura now but Colares is able to slip his way out of it. Now Colares is on top working in half guard and is landing some big elbows to end the round.

Round 2

Round two starts. De Freitas lands two body kicks. A 1-2 combination by De Freitas lands. He has Colares hurt but Colares is able to get into the clinch and push De Freitas against the cage. De Freitas reverses position and is now working for a single and gets it. De Freitas moves into full mount and now has the back of Colares. Colares ties to reverse it but De Freitas gets back into back mount. Now Colares slips out and he’s on top landing punches on De Freitas. Colares is on half guard while De Freitas is trying to scramble out of it. Colares is landing some elbows to the body of De Freitas from top. De Freitas closes the guard but Colares gets out and nearly takes the back before De Freitas is able to break out of it and get back to the feet. De Freitas changes levels and completes a double leg takedown. Colares gets back up. They finally break. Colares almost lands a high kick. De Freitas rushes in and briefly lands a double leg takedown but the round is now over.

Round 3

The third round starts and both men swing wildly at each other on the feet before De Freitas changes levels and gets a double leg takedown. Colares gets back to his feet but De Freitas has him shoved against the fence. They break apart. Colares lands some knees from the clinch and breaks away again. Big overhand right from De Freitas and he ducks under and lands a double leg takedown. De Freitas is in side control and briefly has the back before getting back on top. Now De Freitas steps into full mount. He’s looking to take the back of Colares but Colares reverses him. De Freitas lands a right uppercut and hurts Colares but for some reason completes a double leg takedown instead of going in for the kill. He’s back in side control working. De Freitas is looking to take the back again but Colares gets out of it. Now Colares is looking to take the back of De Freitas. He doesn’t get it and at the 10-second mark both fighters begin exchanging wildly on the feet before the final bell rings and the fight is over. De Freitas should win a wide decision here.

Round 1

It’s the heavyweights as Rozenstruik takes on Albini. Your referee in charge is Joao Claudio Soares. Rozenstruik lands a low kick and Albini returns ones. Albini rushes in for a double leg takedown against the cage and is able to get it. Albini is now in half guard landing some elbows from the top. Albini is looking for a kimura. He’s in half guard now and yanking the arm of Rozenstruik. He lets go and lands some elbows. Albini transitions into full mount but he’s back into half guard. Rozenstruik is finally able to escape and the fight is back on the feet. Albini is able to slip out of a Rozenstruik takedown attempt and nearly takes the back before Rozenstruik reverses and is now on top. He uses this is an opportunity to get back to the feet. Overhand right by Albini lands. They clinch against the fence but the referee breaks it up. Albini lands a body kick and follows it up wit a low kick. Albini goes for an overhand right but misses and Rozenstruik land a jab. Albini has Rozenstruik against the cage. Rozenstruik lands some elbows from the clinch and they break. Albini lands a low kick. He lands a right hand behind the ear of Albini. Now Rozenstruik lands a high kick but the round is over.

Low kick by Albini lands. Rozenstruik lands a left hook and then an overhand right and Albini is hurt. He follows it up with a left high kick and Albini is badly rocked and falls over against the cage. Rozenstruik rushes in and lands punches until the referee steps in and stops the fight. Nice comeback victory by the Suriname native.

Round 1

It’s time for the welterweights as Griffin takes on Alves. The referee is the respected Jason Herzog. Alves lands a low kick and a body kick. Griffin lands a jab and a teep but Alves returns with another low kick. Griffin clips Alves and now has Alves is hurt. Griffin is landing on Alves but goes for a takedown and Alves is able to clear the cobwebs. They exchange strikes in the center of the Octagon. Fast pace to start this fight. Low kick by Alves. Griffin returns with a jab. Griffin lands a right straight and Alves returns with a counter overhand right. Griffin lands a 1-2 to the body of Alves. Again Alves lands a low kick. Another 1-2 from Griffin. Alves just misses an overhand right. Alves throws about four punches and lands a left cross on the chin of Griffin. Body kick by Alves and he lands a straight right. Griffin lands a knee to the groin of Alves but they continue to fight anyways. Right straight by Griffin lands but Alves returns with another low kick. Left hook to the body by Griffin. Alves lands a left high kick. Alves lands a right straight to Griffin but he returns fire and lands a couple of knees on Alves that knock him over. The bell rings and Alves is saved to fight another round.

Round two starts. Alves lands another low kick. Griffin returns with a jab. Alves is pushing forward but Griffin is using his reach advantage and jabbing him away anytime he comes in. They are going toe-to-toe against the fence but Griffin grabs Alves and gets a breather. Griffin is looking for a double leg takedown but Alves reverses it. Griffin is pushing Alves against the fence and they break apart. Griffin ducks down and looks for another double leg but Alves reverses it. Alves lands multiple left hooks and right hands but Griffin is hanging in tough. Alves lands a low kick. Alves is bullying Griffin and stalking him down. Alves throws a 1-2 and just misses a huge overhand right as the bell rings and the round ends. Great round by both men.

The third round starts and both men exchange punches wildly again. Alves continues to land low kicks while Griffin continues to stick and move. Alves lands a right straight and gets into the clinch. Griffin lands a knee in the clinch. Alves goes for a spinning back elbow but Griffin ducks under and gets the takedown. Alves is able to get back up. Griffin gets the body lock takedown on Alves and is now in full mount. Alves gets him into half guard and briefly escapes before Griffin gets him back to the mat. Griffin is now looking to take the back of Alves but can’t get it. Alves is able to get back up to his feet and is finally able to escape the clinch. Alves lands a left kick to the body. Alves just misses an overhand right. Alves goes into the clinch and has Griffin against the fence. Griffin lands a knee. Alves is working for a double leg takedown but Griffin has his arm in a kimura and drops down to his back. Griffin reverses position and is now on top. The 10-second clapper ends with Griffin on top of Alves landing punches on him against the fence.

It’s time for the women’s flyweights now as Borella takes on Santos with Camila Albuquerque making her first appearance of the night as the referee. They go into the clinch against the fence. Santos gets the body lock takedown and gets into mount. She looks to take the back of Borella. Santos is now working from the backpack and the choke looks fairly tight but Borella is able to escape from it. Borella rushes in and pushes Santos against the fence. Borella lands the body lock takedown and is now on top working in side control. Borella is landing elbows to the head of Santos. Borella gets back up and then goes back down and into the half guard of Santos. She is working hard to stay in the position by throwing strikes from half guard. Santos is looking for a triangle but can’t get it. Borella lands some more punches from the top and the round is over.

Round 2

Borella again rushes in and has Santos shoved against the fence. She completes the body lock takedown briefly but Santos gets back up. They continue to work in the clinch and exchange positions against the fence. The crowd begins to boo as neither fighter is landing much inside the clinch. The referee should think about breaking them apart but Santos lands a knee and is given more time to work. They continue to work within the clinch with very little action and the referee finally breaks them apart. Borella rushes back into the clinch and is working on a single leg takedown. Santos gets out of it and lands a body kick. She lands a teep and just misses a left hook. Borella goes back into the clinch along the fence and starts to land some knees. The clapper ends an uneventful round.

Round 3

Santos throws a right high kick. She throws a teep and now a jab. Right hook to the body and another jab by Santos. Borella looks to get into the clinch again but Santos fights her off. Another jab from Santos. Borella rushes in and Santos lands a left hook but it doesn’t hurt Borella. Santos with a low kick. She is moving forward and finally starting to land. Borella nearly catches a low kick from Santos but she gets away from it. Stiff jab by Santos lands. She just misses a right hand and then lands a right straight on Borella’s chin. Santos has Borella on her bike now. Another jab by Santos and a straight right lands. She stuffs a double leg takedown attempt by Borella and lands another right straight. Santos needs a finish. Another hard jab by Santos, and another. She misses a spinning back fist. Another jab by Santos. She lands an uppercut and a right straight. Santos lands a 1-2 and a low kick. But it’s too little too late, and the fight is over.

Up next is the middleweights as Perez takes on Hernandez. The third man in the cage is Eduardo Herdy. Perez lands a low kick. Hernandez rushes in with a 1-2 and gets Perez against the fence. Perez is able to reverse position. He’s working for a body lock takedown and gets it but Hernandez gets back up. Perez is looking to take the back of Hernandez. He isn’t able to get into rear-naked choke position but is controlling Hernandez nicely. They break and Hernandez lands a body kick. Perez pushes Hernandez against the fence but gets reversed. Perez lands a knee on the break. Hernandez lands an elbow and an overhand right. Perez misses a left straight. Right straight lands by Hernandez but Perez counters him with a 1-2 and has Hernandez rocked. He pushes Hernandez against the fence. Perez just misses a spinning back elbow. Perez misses an overhand left. Hernandez throws a straight right and gets Perez against the fence but gets reversed yet again. Hernandez lands a straight right and Perez returns with a low kick. Hernandez has Perez against the fence and throws a right hand. He is looking for the knockout but Perez is able to evade it and the round is over.

Round 2

Perez lands a kick to the body and Hernandez is hurt. Perez rushes in and uses this as an opportunity to take the back but Hernandez shakes him off and gets out of it. Perez has Hernandez in a standing anaconda choke and drags Hernandez to the mat with the choke locked in. A second later and Hernandez taps out as the referee steps in to stop the fight due to submission.

Livinha Souza vs. Sarah Frota

Round 1

It’s a women’s catchweight bout between Souza and Frota -- who missed weight by a whopping seven pounds -- to kick off the main card. The ref is Camila Albuquerque. The fight starts and they exchange low kicks. You can see how big Frota is in the Octagon. Frota lands a stiff jab but Souza gets into the clinch and lands a judo-influenced takedown. Frota locks in a triangle and uses it to reverse position but Souza locks in a guillotine and drops down for it. She doesn’t get it and Frota is now on top landing punches. Frota isn’t staying busy but the referee is letting her take time off the clock. Souza is trying to go for an armbar but Frota is doing a good job of staying strong on top. Frota continues to land punches from the top to the body of Souza. But Souza grabs Frota’s arm and locks in an armbar in transition before Frota gets out of it. They are on the feet now exchanging big punches with one another. Souza lands a punch to the body and shoots in for a double leg but is stuffed by Frota. They get into the clinch along the fence. Souza is looking for a single leg takedown and gets it when Frota makes a bad decision at going for a guillotine and losing position along the fence. Souza ends the round with some heavy punches from the top, and it might be enough to steal the round back for her.

Round 2

Round two starts and they exchange low kicks. Frota lands a left straight but Souza returns with an overhand right. Souza looks to land an overhand right but Frota catches her with an overhand counter left and rocks Souza. Somehow Souza is able to shake off the cobwebs quickly and she dives in for a double leg takedown and gets it. Souza is on top working and staying busy by throwing punches. Frota is trying to lock her up with her legs and hope for a referee standup. Finally the referee steps in and the fight is back on the feet. Frota throws an overhand right but Souza ducks under at the right time and gets the double leg takedown. Souza is on top but Frota threatens with a kneebar and the fight is back on the feet. Frota lands a 1-2 and Souza dives in for another double leg. Frota is able to stuff the takedown and she now has Souza against the fence where she is landing heavy knees against her. Combination from Frota on the feet but Souza is eating some heavy shots now. Souza shoots in for another double leg and in transition is able to get the back of Frota. She’s in a good position now to secure the choke but there’s only 30 seconds left. Souza is landing hard punches now and uses them to get back into rear-naked choke position. Somehow Frota is able to fight off the choke and we are going to the third round.

Round 3

The third round begins. Once again Souza dives in for a double leg while Frota swings and misses wildly. Straight right by Souza on the chin of Frota, they clinch up, and she pulls guard. Frota lands some heavy hammerfists from on top. She lands some punches to the body and for some reason the referee steps in stand them up. Frota marches forward and lands a high kick. She lands a body kick and flails away at another high kick. Souza returns fire but misses an overhand right. Frota lands a straight left and lands a right hook. Souza dives in for another double leg takedown but Frota stuffs it and throws Souza to the mat. Frota is now kicking the thighs of Souza while she lies on the mat. Once again the referee steps in to stand the fighters up. Souza lands a body kick. She misses a right hook to the body. Souza connects on an overhand right. Frota lands a heavy straight left and has Souza rocked. There isn’t much time left in the fight now. Frota continues to march down Souza as the timer ends the round.

Johnny Walker vs. Justin Ledet

Round 1

It’s light heavyweight action now between Walker and Ledet. The official inside the Octagon is Eduardo Herdy. Ledet moves in with a couple of jabs but Walker lands a hook kick and then a spinning back fist. Ledet is badly hurt and Walker rushes in and throws vicious ground and pound on Ledet before the ref mercifully rescues him. Incredible knockout win for Walker, who looks like a future star for the UFC. Replays show Walker nearly landed an illegal soccer kick on Ledet just before the final punches, but the result of the fight stands.

Charles Oliveira vs. David Teymur

Round 1

Up next is a very intriguing bout between rising lightweight contenders Oliveira and Teymur. The ref is Jerin Valel. The fight begins and both men exchange low kicks. Teymur throws a left high kick that’s blocked and he accidentally pokes Oliveira in the eyes on the break. The ref calls time. He is hurt and the doctor is called in to check on him. Oliveira says he can see and the doctor gives the OK to restart the fight. Now Valel takes a point away from Teymur for the eye poke. They go back to fighting and once again Oliveira says he was poked in the eye but the referee didn’t see it and the fight goes on. Oliveira lands a flying front kick and is marching forward on Teymur. He is stalking him down but Teymur catches him with a counter right hand and takes the fight to the ground. Oliveira goes for a submission but Teymur stands back up. Teymur attempts a superman punch but misses. Oliveira lands a right hand and a front kick. Teymur is badly cut under the eye from an earlier strike by Oliveira and it’s showing now. Oliveira is able to bull rush his way in and get a takedown on Teymur. He’s lands on bottom in transition and Teymur ends up back on the feet after failing in an attempt for a leg lock. Oliveira lands a knee on Teymur. He lands a straight right. Teymur lands a left hook to the body. Oliveira lands a flying knee and Teymur returns with a right high kick. Oliveira lands a spinning back fist and then a 1-2 combination on Teymur. Now Teymur lands a low kick. Left straight by Teymur. Oliveira misses a spinning back kick. Left straight by Teymur but Oliveira lands a counter right. The horn sounds to end the round.

The second round starts. The fighters circle. Oliveira lands a step-in elbow and follows it up with an uppercut. He has Teymur rocked against the fence now and is swarming him with punches. The referee lets Teymur fight out of it and he goes for the clinch in desperation but that turns out to be bad news for him. Oliveira locks a rocked Teymur up in an anaconda choke, drags him to the ground, and he quickly taps out.

Demian Maia vs. Lyman Good

Round 1

We now have a welterweight bout between Maia and Good. The referee is Osiris Maia. They touch gloves. Maia is backing up Good against the fence and shoots for a single leg. He changes it to a double leg and gets a takedown. Maia is now on top of Good on the ground. Good gets back up but gives up his back in the process. Maia has the rear-naked choke locked around Good’s neck and is in control in the backpack position. Good is doing a good job of defending but Maia is working hard for the standing rear-naked choke. Maia is able to adjust his grip, tighten the hooks, and a second later Good is forced to tap out. Great performance tonight by the veteran Maia.

Jose Aldo vs. Renato Carneiro

Round 1

The co-main event is upon us as top featherweight contenders Aldo and Carneiro clash in what should be a great fight. The referee on top of the action is Jerin Valel. They touch gloves. The feeling-out process takes up the first minute of the fight as neither man throws a strike. Carneiro attempts a spinning back kick, then a low kick. Aldo throws an overhand left but misses and Carneiro tags him with a counter right. They are now in the center of the Octagon exchanging straight rights and low kicks. Aldo lands a left hook and Carneiro returns with a low kick. Carneiro throws a high kick that’s blocked. Aldo briefly slips on the mat after throwing a low kick but Carneiro can’t take advantage. Carneiro lands a teep and Aldo returns with a hook to the body. Jab by Carneiro and he moves away from an Aldo low kick. Carneiro connects with an overhand right and Aldo misses one of his own. Low kick by Carneiro and a jab. Aldo misses with a straight right. Left hook lands by Carneiro. Now a jab by Carneiro and Aldo misses a jab of his own. The 10-second clapper sounds and the round soon comes to a close.

Round 2

The second round starts. Aldo lands an overhand left and then a body shot. Carneiro is hurt and Aldo rushes in and blitzes him with what seems like 100 punches in about 10 seconds. Carneiro is getting brutalized here against the fence and the referee jumps in and saves him from any further damage. Amazing, vintage performance by Aldo with that finish.

Raphael Assuncao vs. Marlon Moraes

Round 1

We’ve arrived at our main event of the evening, a five-round bantamweight bout between contenders Assuncao and Moraes. Jason Herzog is the third man in the Octagon. Moraes starts off with a chopping low kick. Assuncao returns with a straight right. Assuncao lands a spinning back kick. Moraes with another low kick. Moraes peppers Assuncao with a double jab. Moraes clubs Assuncao with a huge overhand right, and then follows it up with another and drops him. Moraes gets on top of Assuncao on the ground and is working from half guard but Assuncao is getting time to regain his wits. Assuncao is trying to wrap Moraes up but Moraes is landing ground and pound and staying busy. Assuncao goes to get up but Moraes locks in a guillotine choke and rolls him over. Moraes is now on top of Assuncao with a mounted guillotine choke. Moraes yanks it tighter and forces Assuncao to submit. Another amazing performance by Moraes that should earn him a bantamweight title shot against champion TJ Dillashaw.
