Tom Breese vs. Luiz Jorge Dutra Jr.

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: Gleidson Venga/Sherdog.com

Brees' debut was impressive.
The southpaw Breese feels the range with pawing right hands before Dutra wraps him up and the welterweights move to the fence. They jockey for position before Dutra sets up on the outside and cracks Breese with a pair of hard elbows in the clinch. Breese breaks out, circles to the middle and now looks to keep the shorter man at bay with snappy jabs. Breese moves toward the fence to clinch but is quickly reversed by the Brazilian, who shoves the rangy “Octopus” against the fence with an underhook. Breese puts a couple good knees on Dutra’s body before exiting the clinch, then repeats with more knees when Dutra tries to tie up away from the fence. Back to the fence they go, Breese on the outside, hitting “Besouro” with more knees to the body, then working Dutra’s legs with kicks after they separate. With seconds remaining in the round, Breese drops Dutra with a straight left hand to the jaw. Dutra hits the ground in a daze, rolls to his stomach and covers up as Breese punches his way to a stoppage from referee Fernando Yamasaki.

The Official Result

Tom Breese def. Luiz Jorge Dutra Jr. via TKO (Punches) R1 4:58

Ericka Almeida vs. Juliana de Lima Carneiro

Round 1

Almeida goes straight for a head-and-arm throw but gets rolled by Lima, who winds up in good position for a reverse triangle choke. Lima abandons the triangle to take top position, pushes her opponent toward the fence and begins body-punching through Almeida’s closed guard. Posturing up, Lima finds space to drop a pair of hard elbows, then burrows back down when Almeida shifts her hips and threatens to try an armbar. Almeida is keeping a high guard, and she uses it to swing her legs around and attack Lima’s far arm. Lima pulls her arm free and emerges from a brief leglock battle to reclaim top position. Inside the final minute, Lima continues to work in Almeida’s guard, keeping active with punches. Lima stands, dives back to the mat with punches and goes body-head with right hands to finish the round.

Round 2

Carneiro cruised against Almeida.
Lima closes the distance on Almeida, wraps up and trips her to the ground in the first 20 seconds of the round. Almeida continues to absorb punches to the body and head as she tries to kick off the fence and find room for another sweep or armbar attempt. The pace has slowed midway through the round, with Lima not mounting much offense on top and Almeida doing even less underneath. Almeida has wrapped up Lima’s arms now, neutralizing her punching ability. Referee Camila Albuquerque calls for action, and a few punches from Lima aren’t enough to satisfy the official, who stands up the fighters with 50 seconds on the clock. Lima grabs Almeida in the Thai plum and attacks against the fence with knees to the body, then trips her to the canvas just before the horn.

Round 3

The strawweights spend the first 30 seconds dancing a few feet away from one another, then Lima counters an Almeida left hand with a hard counter right. Lima looks to be the fresher of the two, bouncing on her feet as Almeida steps forward, but she’s only waiting for Almeida to throw. Two minutes in, neither woman has landed much clean offense. Almeida swings a wild overhand right and gets plucked by a counter right hook. Lima throws a leg kick and gets blasted with a well-timed Almeida left hand over the top. Almeida keeps pushing forward, eats a left hook and finally closes in on Lima. With her back near the fence, Lima changes levels and plows Almeida to the ground, setting up on top with 90 seconds remaining in the fight. Lima spends the final minute and a half on top, throwing sporadic ground-and-pound in Almeida’s guard.

Mirsad Bektic vs. Lucas Martins

Round 1

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: G. Venga/Sherdog.com

Bektic smoked Martins.
Bektic walks right into the pocket and starts throwing hands, popping Martins with a pair of right hooks before changing levels for a takedown. The American Top Team product is active on top, sitting up in Martins’ open guard and dropping punches and elbows which slice open the Brazilian’s face. Martins works his way over to the fence, gets to one knee and tries to stand, but Bektic traps him there and blasts away with thumping left hands under the armpit. With Martins’ right side flush to the cage, Bektic triangles his free leg and tries to keep him on the ground. Martins powers back to his feet midway through the round but is taken down again 20 seconds later. Back up he comes, Bektic still clung to him with a rear wasitlock, and the Bosnian rides Martins back to the ground. More left hands connect for Bektic, and now Martins’ left eye is nearly swollen shut. Bektic finishes the round working for a rear-naked choke, which Martins defends.

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Bektic
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-8 Bektic
Jeff Sherwood scores the round 10-9 Bektic

Round 2

Bektic catches Martins with a right hook behind the ear, and the Brazilian’s stumbles backward and then drops to the ground. Bektic stacks up his fallen foe at the base of the fence and pounds away with both hands. Martins is covering up, deflecting many of the punches, but offering nothing in return. When Martins rolls to his side and Bektic continues punching, referee Mario Yamasaki stops the bout.

The Official Result

Mirsad Bektic def. Lucas Martins via TKO (Punches) R2 0:30

Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos vs. Nicolas Dalby

Round 1

Daly opens with a hard leg kick, has a right high kick blocked upstairs and then hits the Brazilian’s leg again. Dos Santos keeps the Danish fighter out of the pocket with jabs but takes a couple more kicks to the lead leg. A right hook connects for dos Santos, then a left hook on the end of combination forces Dalby to circle away. When dos Santos presses forward, Dalby changes levels and puts “Capoeira” on the ground with a quick double-leg takedown. Dos Santos closes his guard and tries to lock down Dalby’s arms, and he’s rewarded with a hasty stand-up order from referee Fernando Yamasaki. Dalby puts a kick on dos Santos’ chest and bounces around the perimeter while the Brazilian stalks from the center. Another body kick thumps the body of dos Santos, who wheels around with a flashy spinning kick which Dalby ducks underneath. Dos Santos, off balance from the kick, has to pull guard as Dalby changes levels, but the Brazilian uses butterfly guard to get back to his feet. Dalby keeps a body lock and rips dos Santos back to the canvas just before the end of the round.

Round 2

(+ Enlarge) | Photo: G. Venga/Sherdog.com

Dalby took a split decision.
Dalby keeps a high guard at the start of the second round, deflecting some big right hands from dos Santos. A few kicks land on the legs of the “Sharpshooter,” and now dos Santos is swinging for the fences with overhand rights and uppercuts. One uppercut gets through for dos Santos, followed by three or four good leg kicks and a left hook which catches Dalby stepping inside. Dalby grabs for dos Santos’ hips, pushes him to the fence and completes the takedown, but dos Santos pops right back up. Dalby is sucking wind halfway through the round, trying to hold dos Santos against the cage. He gets another takedown but once again cannot hold dos Santos on the ground. The welterweights restart in the center with two minutes remaining, and dos Santos catches Dalby changing levels to land a hard knee. A leaping crescent kick from dos Santos thuds off the arms of Dalby but nonetheless forces Dalby to circle out. Dalby clinches up and throws a knee inside which catches dos Santos on the cup. He takes only a few seconds to recover and then emerges from the corner throwing heavy punches. A counter left hook rocks Dalby’s head, then an overhand right pushes him backward in the final 10 seconds. Dalby ends the round shooting for a takedown in the center.

Round 3

Dos Santos starts the final frame landing an overhand right and follows up with a knee to the body as Dalby steps in to tie up. The Brazilian quickly breaks out of the clinch and lands another knee on the exit. A left hook to the body lands for dos Santos, who is doing well to scoot backward and evade Dalby’s punches and low kicks. Dalby shoots for his opponent’s legs, but dos Santos underhooks his arms and tosses him away. When Dalby steps into the pocket throwing punches with his head down, dos Santos sweeps him out with a big uppercut. “Capoeira” grabs the Thai plum and hits Dalby with a couple knees, sending the Danish fighter shooting for a takedown. Dalby pushes dos Santos against the cage, switches from a double-leg to a body lock, and then has to defend as dos Santos threatens with a standing kimura. With 90 seconds on the clock, Dalby rips dos Santos off the fence and to the canvas near the center. Referee Yamasaki immediately calls for work, but before he can stand them up, dos Santos uses the kimura to sweep to top position. Dos Santos stands over Dalby and tries to come back to the ground with punches, but Dalby finds enough space to post and stand with 20 seconds remaining. Dos Santos grazes Dalby’s face with one last overhand right, and that’s where it ends.

Jussier da Silva vs. Wilson Reis

Round 1

Da Silva catches the first kick from southpaw Reis and trips him to the ground, then clips the former EliteXC champ with a hook as Reis bounces back to his feet. The flyweights feint and twitch just outside range for the opening two minutes, then Reis catches “Formiga” with a left hook when the Nova Uniao fighter tries to tie up. A right hook behind the ear stumbles da Silva, and Reis resets to land another right hand a few seconds later. With 65 seconds on the clock, the flyweights finally clinch up, but it doesn’t lead anywhere and they disengage to continue theirfeinting and circling. Da Silva clips the incoming Reis with a right hand, but Reis answers with a knee to the body. They clinch with over-unders in the last 20 seconds and Reis pushes his countryman against the cage. Reis drops levels to try a takedown but can’t complete it before the round ends.

Round 2

Formiga took two rounds from Reis.
Da Silva drops Reis with a short right hand on the chin; the punch doesn’t look hard, but Reis hits the deck nonetheless. “Formiga” pounces, jumps on Reis’ back and keeps a rear waist lock as Reis gets to his feet. Reis fends off a rear-naked choke, peels away the arms and turns over to wind up on top in da Silva’s open guard. Da Silva tries to elevate with butterfly guard but Reis is heavy on top, not throwing offense but working to pass the guard. Halfway through the round, da Silva pushes back to his feet, but he’s pressed against the fence by Reis with an underhook. Reis drops for a single-leg, can’t get it, and now da Silva circles out to the center. Formiga touches Reis with another clean right hand, but Reis comes in hard on a level change and overpowers da Silva with another takedown. Formiga is right back up standing, where he digs an underhook and escapes Reis’ clinch on the fence. Now it’s da Silva hitting a trip takedown, but Reis threatens with a leglock to escape back to his feet. Reis ends the round holding da Silva against the fence.

Round 3

After an inactive opening minute to the final round, Reis shoots on da Silva’s legs and ends up holding him against a cage post with a body lock. Da Silva widens his base and uses an overhook to fend off the takedown, so Reis goes upstairs with a couple quick, popping left hands. Formiga circles off the fence with just over three minutes remaining in the fight. Reis leaps into range with a flying knee, sidestepped by da Silva. Now a few leg kicks land for Reis before he closes the distance to push da Silva against the cage again. Reis lands a couple knees to the body as da Silva takes a glance at the clock, which is ticking down the final minute of the fight. Referee Camila Albuquerque restarts the flyweights with 40 seconds to go, and da Silva clips Reis with an overhand right. Reis initiates another clinch on the fence and gets tossed to the ground by da Silva, who climbs on Reis’ back just before the horn sounds.

Rony Mariano Bezerra vs. Damon Jackson

Round 1

Jackson walks forward on the Brazilian, who switches between southpaw and orthodox stances before launching himself at Jackson with a flying knee. Jackson catches Bezerra’s leg and pushes him against the fence but can’t complete the takedown, and “Jason” circles back to the middle. One minute into the fight, Jackson changes levels and floors Bezerra with a double. Bezerra takes a couple hammer fists to the face but does well to control Jackson’s wrists from closed guard. Jackson stands up and smashes Bezerra’s face with a hard elbow, then catches him in a front headlock and pulls him back to his knees. Jackson throws a knee to the head of Bezerra just as the Brazilian is lifting his hand off the ground to stand. Referee Kevin MacDonald pauses the fight, and after a minute, Bezerra is ready to restart. Jackson ducks under a left hook and plows Bezerra back to the ground. Bezerra catches Jackson in a triangle and rolls him over, trying to finish with a triangle-armbar combination. Bezerra winds up belly-down, can’t finish from that position, and rolls to full mount where he gets the tap.

The Official Result

Rony Mariano Bezerra def. Damon Jackson via Submission (Triangle Choke) R1 3:31

Darren Till vs. Wendell de Oliveira Marques

Round 1

Till puts a few kicks on the body of Oliveira before the Brazilian shoots for a takedown and winds up holding Till against the fence. Oliveira digs an underhook with his right arm and throws knees at Till’s body on the other side. A couple more knees connect with Till’s abdomen before he’s able to reverse and circle out. Oliveira dodges a couple high kicks, including one which sends Till slipping to the ground. The southpaw bounces back up before Oliveira can capitalize, then throws a left high kick which “The Machine” is able to block. Oliveira tries to close the distance with three overhand shots, none of which connect as Till circles away. The welterweights exchange low kicks but do little else in the closing minute, as the Brazilian crowd begins to boo.

Till uses the whizzer to scramble for top position and winds up on top in half guard, where he cracks Oliveira with a hard elbow strike. Oliveira shrimps underneath and winds up on his side, leaving his face open to more elbows from Till. One, two, three big elbows land flush, knocking Oliveira unconscious and sending referee Fernando Yamasaki into action.

Norman Parke vs. Francisco Trinaldo

Round 1

Parke presses forward on his fellow southpaw, switching stances and testing the range with high kicks and long punches. Trinaldo hits the Irishman with a few outside kicks to the lead leg and tries to come over the top with big left hands, but the punches are deflected. Trinaldo starts finding his mark midway through the round, ripping the body of Parke with hard hooks. He only lands a few before Parke opts to change levels and hit a takedown, wrapping up the legs of “Massaranduba” to keep him down at the base of the fence. Trinaldo stands with Parke still holding on to his back, but he uses the cage to peel him off and Parke goes to the front. Parke trips Trinaldo to the ground and works to hold him there with a front headlock, but the Brazilian posts and gets back to his feet. Parke holds him against the fence for the final 30 seconds, but it’s Trinaldo closing the round with a clinch knee to the face.

Trinaldo got the nod against Parke.
Trinaldo picks at the lead leg of Parke with more kicks at the start of round two, then throws an overhand left that prompts “Stomin’ Norman” to shoot for a takedown. Trinaldo stands him up and pushes Parke against the fence, releases and slugs with a left hand upstairs. A hard left hook slams Parke’s ribs, and Trinaldo walks him down to land a clinch knee. Parke ducks under a whipping left, trips Trinaldo to the ground briefly but cannot keep him down. Trinaldo is mixing in standing elbow strikes with his punches as he continues to walk down Parke. A straight left on the jaw visibly hurts Parke, who continues to backpedal as “Massaranduba” marches on him. Trinaldo slips an overhand from Parke and counters with another head-rocking left straight. Trinaldo sprawls on a shot from Parke in the closing seconds of the round.

Parke trips Trinaldo to the ground and works to advance to side control, passing 90 seconds into the round as Trinaldo goes belly-down near the fence. Parke jumps on Trinaldo’s back and secures the position with hooks, then begins working for a rear-naked choke. Trinaldo succeeds in shaking one of Parke’s hooks and slips his head free as Parke tries to finish with a neck crank. Trinaldo is on his knees with 90 seconds left, Parke heavy on his back, now with both hooks established. Parke releases the hooks and tries a no-hooks RNC as Trinaldo threatens to stand, but the slippery “Massaranduba” slides free and finally gets Parke off his back. Trinaldo stands but is only free for a couple seconds before Parke spins him back to the mat, and it’s the Irishman who finishes the fight on top, throwing ground-and-pound.

Ryan Jimmo vs. Francimar Barroso

Round 1

Jimmo lands a leg kick and has to get out of the way quickly as Barroso returns fire with an overhand right. After another low kick, Jimmo switches stances to orthodox and blocks a pair of punches with his gloves. Barroso closes the gap and puts Jimmo on the fence with an underhook, then drops for a single-leg and is blocked. High body lock from Barroso now, looking for a trip takedown, but the Canadian stifles this, too. Jimmo fends off another trip attempt but can’t get off the fence as Barroso continues to press him with a body lock. “Bodao” goes back to the single-leg, lifts Jimmo’s left leg in the air but still can’t take him down. Jimmo jumps on one leg to stay standing, gets tripped to his knees but hops right back up to his feet, where Barroso pushes him against the cage again. Referee Kevin MacDonald restarts the fighters in the center with just under a minute remaining, and Jimmo goes right upstairs with a high kick which doesn’t land flush.

Jimmo has lost four of six.
Barroso lands a knee to the body before being wrapped up by Jimmo and pushed to the fence. The Nova Uniao fighter reverses immediately and goes back to pinning Jimmo against the cage with over-unders. Barroso is just barely staying active with short knees to the legs of Jimmo; it’s not enough for ref MacDonald, who separates the 205ers about 90 seconds into the round. Jimmo counters a low kick with an overhand right, but unfortunately, Barroso’s kick lands on the Canadian’s groin. Jimmo drops to his knees in agony and is soon examined by the cageside doctor. Jimmo takes the full five minutes to recover, and action resumes with three minutes left in the middle round. Barroso switches between stances and twitches, trying to get Jimmo to bite on something, but “The Big Deal” looks to be waiting to counter as well. Jimmo catches the incoming Barroso with an uppercut, then a body blow in a brief flurry of activity. Barroso pushes Jimmo against the fence with one minute left, tries a single-leg but abandons it to throw a pair of hard hooks upstairs. Jimmo is sporting a large mouse above his right eye as referee MacDonald breaks up the fighters just before the round ends.

Round 3

Not much action to speak of in the first minute of the final round, as the light heavyweights posture and feint just out of range. Jimmo sends a few punches off the forearms of Barroso, who answers with a high kick that’s blocked. Two minutes in, Barroso rushes at Jimmo and gets shoved against the fence with double underhooks. Barroso reverses, drops for a double-leg and is stood back up. The Brazilian goes to his knees, digging for the takedown, switching to a single, but Jimmo won’t go down. With 1:45 left in the fight, referee MacDonald breaks them up again. Jimmo lands a left hook, stands stock-still in front of Barroso but can’t draw a reaction from his exhausted opponent. Barroso comes in behind a right hand and pushes Jimmo against the cage again. Barroso ends the fight holding Jimmo on the cage, throwing knee strikes to his legs.

Noons tapped to a rear-naked choke.
Noons tries to stomp his way into the pocket and gets cleared out by an Oliveira right hook. “Cowboy” cuts angles around the outside and gets grazed with a left hook which drops him to his knees for a moment. Noons keeps chasing his opponent and stings Oliveira with a right cross on the jaw. Noons lands a left hook and tries to double down, but Oliveira ducks under the second one and wraps up the Strikeforce veteran with a rear waistlock. Oliveira lifts Noons and slams him to the ground, then repeats the takedown when Noons stands up. Noons is back up again midway through the round, trying to pry loose Oliveira’s hands. Oliveira slams Noons again, attaches himself to the back and immediately gets his right arm underneath Noons’ chin. Oliveira cinches the rear-naked choke, and Noons has no choice but to tap.

Charles Oliveira vs. Nik Lentz

Round 1

Oliveira takes the center of the cage and prevents Lentz from stepping inside with a push kick. Lentz’s second attempt gets him into range, and he wraps up Oliveira with a body lock to push him against a cage post. Lentz clasps his hands behind Oliveira’s back, but the Brazilian breaks the grip and grabs a standing guillotine choke. Lentz tosses “Charles do Bronx” to the mat, slipping free of the sub attempt in the process. Lentz stands over Oliveira and tries to navigate the rangy guard, eventually allowing Oliveira to stand. As Oliveira gets to his feet, he eats a straight punch from Lentz and then has to defend another takedown. Oliveira reverses Lentz’s momentum and hip-tosses him to the ground. Lentz stands but eats a hard level elbow on his way up. A straight left from Lentz rocks the head of Oliveira, who answers with a knee to the body. Oliveira eats a couple right hands in order to grab the Thai clinch and drive a knee up the center. Two minutes left in the busy opening round, and Lentz is back hunting for the takedown, holding Oliveira against the fence. An elbow to the face appears to hurt the left eye of Oliveira, who immediately grabs his face. He gets some space from Lentz and tags him with a straight right, a knee to the body and a standing elbow. Another knee to the gut sends Lentz to the ground in the middle of the cage, and Oliveira tries to pound him out from top position. With 50 seconds left in the round, Oliveira slows his assault and focuses on improving his position. Lentz rolls through, not allowing Oliveira to take his back, but Oliveira takes full mount with 20 seconds to go in the frame. Oliveira closes out the round with one hard elbow strike to Lentz’s face.

'Charles do Bronx' finished Lentz with a choke.
Lentz walks through some hard knees to the gut in order to wrap up Oliveira against the cage. He drags Oliveira to the ground and winds up in the Brazilian’s half guard on the left side. Oliveira tries to bump and roll, can’t escape but does find some space to elbow Lentz’s face from underneath. Lentz leans left to right across Oliveira’s body, passes to side control but can’t hold him down. Oliveira gets to his knees, then his feet, but as soon as he stands, Lentz dumps him face-first onto the canvas. Oliveira sits up and then lies back down to avoid a front headlock from Lentz. An upkick from Oliveira connects, then he throws up his legs to attempt an armbar. Lentz pulls his arm out and goes fishing for the guillotine again, pulling guard with the choke and then rolling to mount. Lentz loses his grip as he goes topside with two minutes left, and now he winds up back in Oliveira’s half guard near the fence. Lentz stands to drop a couple right hands, then has to drop back as Oliveira threatens with a heel hook. Stacking up on top, Lentz is able to relieve the pressure on his leg and mount Oliveira again. The Brazilian sits up against the fence, escaping mount but still trapped underneath Lentz with 45 seconds on the clock. Oliveira gets to his knees and then climbs to his feet with Lentz hanging off his waist. Oliveira tries a trip but gets stuffed back to the mat, and Lentz finishes the round on top.

Carlos Condit vs. Thiago Alves

Round 1

Mario Yamasaki is the referee for tonight’s welterweight main event. Alves starts the fight in the center of the cage, trying to cut off the angles of Condit, who fires off a few leg kicks from the outside. Condit splits Alves’ guard with a straight left hand and has a right high kick blocked. Alves gives the American a couple leg kicks in return, then steps back as Condit flashes a front kick up the center. Condit conitnues to switch stances midway through the opening round, then steps into the pocket to deliver a standing elbow. Alves responds with another leg kick and a straight right hand to Condit’s chin. Alves starts pressing Condit toward the fence in the last minute, scoring with low kicks and straight punches. He hits Condit with a right hand as the “Natural Born Killer” tries to clinch up. An overhand right from Alves sends Condit backward with 20 seconds on the clock. A sneaky lead left hand from Condit sends Alves crashing to the ground near the fence, and Condit wastes no time pouncing and pounding on his wounded opponent. Alves, now spraying blood from his nose, nearly has his back taken but manages to put his back on the canvas instead.
