UFC on Fox 10 Weigh-In Results: Henderson-Thomson Headliner Gets Green Light
Benson
Henderson’s road to reclaiming the
Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight crown runs through
former Strikeforce champion Josh
Thomson.
“Smooth” checked in at 156 pounds for his pivotal five-round showdown with Thomson (155) in the UFC on Fox 10 main event on Saturday at the United Center in Chicago. Heavyweight co-headliners Stipe Miocic (245) and Gabriel Gonzaga (258) met their contracted weight requirements with room to spare at Friday’s official weigh-in.
Henderson trains out of the
MMA Lab in Arizona, where he holds the rank of black belt in
Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Royce Gracie
protégé John Crouch. The 30-year-old last fought at UFC 164 in
August, when he submitted to an Anthony
Pettis armbar at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in Milwaukee;
the defeat halted a streak of seven consecutive victories and cost
him the UFC lightweight title. Henderson was an All-American
wrestler at Dana College, an NAIA school in Nebraska.
Based at the American Kickboxing Academy, Thomson last appeared at UFC on Fox 7 in April, when he put away “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 5 winner Nate Diaz with a second-round head kick and follow-up punches at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The triumph was his first inside the Octagon since January 2004. Thomson counts wins over Gilbert Melendez, Pat Healy, Gesias Cavalcante and K.J. Noons among his 20 professional victories.
UFC on Fox 10 “Henderson vs. Thomson” -- which airs live on Fox at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT -- will also feature a lightweight scrap pitting Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts standout Donald Cerrone (155) against Adriano Martins (155) and a featherweight tilt pairing Alliance MMA’s Jeremy Stephens (146) with Darren Elkins (145).
