Neil Magny vs. Gasan Umalatov

Round 1

Magny throws long, straight punches to keep the shorter man at bay, but Umalatov lands some solid leg kicks and ducks inside to deliver a hook to the gut. Umalatov puts Magny on the fence momentarily. Magny shoves his way out and lands a left straight, misses with the follow-up knee. Umalatov hits a takedown with 3:15 left on the clock and works to extract his right leg from Magny’s half-guard. Magny shoves him away and pops to his feet after hitting Umalatov with a swift upkick. Now it’s Magny looking for a takedown on the fence, reversed by Umalatov, and they separate again. Umalatov catches a low kick and clubs Magny with an overhand right, but Magny defends the takedown and ducks under a wide punch to wrap up Umalatov against the cage. Umalatov trips Magny to the mat, and Magny stands up to knee Umalatov. A quick trip takedown scores for Magny, who moves immediately to take Umalatov’s back with 20 seconds remaining. Magny works for a rear-naked choke but runs out of time.

Round 2

Magny eats another overhand right from Umalatov but returns fire with a pair of punches down the middle. Umalatov rushes in behind a left hook and gets turned against the fence by Magny. The welterweights pummel for position until Umalatov breaks off. Magny walks him down with punching combinations, deflected but not answered by the Russian. Umalatov walks in behind a wild right hand, can’t keep Magny on the cage. The next overhand from Umalatov thuds loudly off the glove of Magny, who comes off the fence to work for a takedown of his own. Magny thumps Umalatov’s body with right hands before they work off the fence, still clinching, and Magny drives a few knees up the center. They separate and Umalatov chases Magny down with a left hook-right hand combo. They tie up and Magny gets a combo, then takes Umalatov’s back. Umalatov goes belly-down and finishes the round with Magny in back-mount, punching away.

Umalatov is trying to take off Magny’s head with huge overhand rights but can’t quite find his mark. Magny sticks a left in Umalatov’s face and follows through with a stiff right cross. Umalatov connects with a good right hook to the body before wrapping up Magny and dragging him to the ground midway through this final frame. Magny stands, still with Umalatov attached to his back, but he shakes the Russian off and they resume striking. Umalatov gets to Magny’s body with a nice hook but the power punches up top are still missing. Umalatov catches a kick and Magny pulls guard; Umalatov doesn’t want to stay there, stands and muscles Magny against the fence. Magny pushes him away and chases Umalatov across the cage with punches. Rashid Magomedov vs. Tony Martin

Round 1

Martin takes 45 seconds to close in on the leg-kicking Magomedov; once the American grabs hold, it’s only a few seconds before Magomedov is on the canvas. Martin works from side control, popping Magomedov with short left hands before Magomedov puts him back in guard to deliver a few elbows. Martin goes back to half-guard and frames up a kimura, then steps over Magomedov’s head to crank the arm. Magomedov flips him over but Martin keeps hold of the limb, switching to an armbar. It’s extremely deep but Magomedov refuses to tap, instead squirming his way back to his feet with just over one minute left in the round. Both men spend the remainder of the round circling and landing slapping kicks, neither fully engaging with strikes.

Martin gets stuck underneath Magomedov, who sits up and socks the American with a hard right hand that immediately lumps up Martin’s eye. Martin uses butterfly guard to stand, taking a kick on the body from Magomedov along the way. Magomedov is pushing the action now, chasing down Martin with quick punches and leg kicks. Martin offers almost nothing in the way of offense in the final two minutes of the frame, and his left eye is badly swollen as he heads back to his corner.

Martin quickly moves in to tie up, looking for a takedown, but Magomedov widens his base against the fence and stuffs the shot. Martin peels him off the cage, now going after a single-leg, and Magomedov continues to defend. Magomedov drives a knee to the body of Martin, who kneels and gets caught in an arm-in guillotine choke. Magomedov tries to finish the choke from mount, but Martin gets his butterfly hooks in and creates enough space to escape. A huge left hand on the ground has Martin rolling over. He stands up and Magomedov follows him with a kick to the face, another big punch and a knee. Two minutes left in the bout and Martin works for a takedown on the fence, keeping Magomedov pinned on the outside with underhooks. Referee Gasper Oliver splits them up with 55 seconds remaining; shortly afterward, he calls the cageside physician to look at Martin’s eye. Martin is cleared and goes for another takedown attempt as soon as they resume. Magomedov shoves him away and goes after Martin with more punches, and that’s where it ends.

Hester’s assault slows but he’s still sending hard shots down the pipe, now going to the body with the left. Enz seems to have recovered as he slaps at Hester’s body with kicks and paws with jabs. With 90 seconds left, Enz stings Hester with a pair of quick right hands, then catches him leaning the other way with a head kick. Hester answers with a wide left hook that doesn’t land flush. Now it’s Enz pumping his jab, but it doesn’t last long as Hester plows him to the ground in the center of the cage. Enz is sporting a cut beneath his right eye as Hester sits in his half-guard, scooting toward the fence. Enz gets to the fence and scrambles up, then pops Hester with a jab and a body kick. Enz responds with a right of his own and a kick to the body. The middleweights clash throwing big right hands and Hester circles out to resume jabbing. Enz is throwing power punches and head kicks, landing some but coming up short on more. Hester eats a right hand and keeps coming to thump Enz’s liver with a left hook. Another left hook and a right straight connect for Hester, then a takedown with 30 seconds left. Enz scrambles up and holds back on delivering an illegal knee to the still-kneeling Hester.

Iaquinta grabs hold of Lee’s right leg and falls back to wrench a heel hook. Lee defends well, fighting off Iaquinta’s hands before standing up. Iaquinta rolls underneath, thinking kneebar, but he loses it as Lee tries to hop on his back. Iaquinta takes a knee to the face as he stands, and the lightweights reset on the feet. Lee is still on Iaquinta’s back with a body triangle locked in and three minutes remaining in the round. Another RNC attempt from Lee is avoided by Iaquinta, but Lee is rolling everywhere with him, making Iaquinta work and dodge chokes. Mir changes levels as Overeem rushes at him, and Overeem winds up shoving the jiu-jitsu specialist to the mat. Mir closes up his guard until Overeem stands and calls for Mir to do the same. The next shot from Mir is thwarted by Overeem, who again pushes the American to the ground. Overeem works from half-guard this time, catching Mir with a couple good right hands before Mir is able to get full guard. Mir is zapped by a pair of heavy lefts but he keeps hold of Overeem from underneath. It’s all Overeem in the second half of the frame, just walloping Mir with rugged ground-and-pound. With one minute left, Overeem tells Mir to get up and drills him with a right hand. Ref Miragliotta tells the heavyweights to fight with 15 seconds remaining. Mir looks like he’s barely staying vertical, but Overeem takes the passive route and doesn’t attack in the final seconds.

UFC Featherweight Title Fight:
Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas

Round 1

Referee Keith Peterson is the third man in the cage for tonight’s 145-pound title fight. Lamas opens up in the southpaw stance, circling the outside and flicking out kicks at the champion’s lead leg. Switching to orthodox, Lamas pulls up short while pumping his jab, then covers up when Aldo comes forward with a combo. Aldo checks the next low kick and feints a few of his own, all while continuing to move along with Lamas. The next two low kicks from Lamas are checked. Aldo goes upstairs with a left hook and follows with a whipping right low kick outside. Aldo catches a body kick and trips Lamas to the ground, then charges forward and tries to take off the challenger’s head with uppercuts. Lamas gets to his feet and dodges most of the punishment, though Aldo gives chase and drives a hard right hook to Lamas’ body. Lamas misses with a pair of spinning kicks and covers up as Aldo tries a leaping knee at the horn.

When Lamas steps into striking range, Aldo sticks a lightning fast flurry of punches in his challenger’s face. The champion is dodging most of Lamas’ offense, though “The Bully” gets through with an unchecked leg kick and a left hand in the latter half of the round. Lamas is trapped, can’t create space or grab hold of a headlock with his left arm. Aldo trips him to the ground with three minutes remaining and tries to step into mount, but Lamas blocks him with a butterfly hook. Both men land short punches as Aldo works to extract his leg from Lamas’ half-guard. With 90 seconds left, Aldo makes it to full mount, then sinks in both hooks when Lamas gives up his back. Aldo tries for a rear-naked choke, can’t get it and squeezes to try and finish with a neck crank. Aldo steps over Lamas’ legs and into full mount, where he stays for 30 seconds before Lamas walks off the wall and into top position. Aldo puts the challenger in guard, and Lamas sits up to drop hard punches. He only gets off a few before Aldo ties up from underneath. Lamas drops a hard left hand with 90 seconds to go. Renan Barao vs. Urijah Faber

Round 1

Herb Dean is the referee for tonight’s main event, with judges Ricardo Almeida, Eric Colon and Cardo Urso scoring at cageside. Faber slips on a kick but pops up before Barao can pounce. The “California Kid” tries to go body head, and Barao backs out of the way. A body kick slaps at Faber, who comes forward with punches and gets countered by Barao’s return fire in the pocket. Faber goes down after a big right hand and Barao looks to pound him out, swarming with punches and knees as Faber gets to his feet. Faber is able to circle out but Barao is all over him, scoring with an uppercut. Another right hand to the temple sends Faber to the ground. He’s grabbing for a leg while Barao bashes away with hammer fists, most of which go off Faber’s hand and bicep. Referee Dean steps in to wave off the fight, and Faber protests immediately. It’s too late -- Renan Barao has retained his UFC bantamweight title.
